Good news from San Francisco: a day after two new suspects in the beating case of Bryan Stow were arrested by Los Angeles police, doctors reported that Stow was “very alert” and apparently responding to commands.
Meanwhile, the two new suspects arrested in the case have been identified by Los Angeles police: They are 29-year-old Louie Sanchez and 30-year-old Marvin Norwood. TMZ is reporting that Norwood has been arrested in San Bernardino County five times, including one for spousal abuse.
Sanchez has been arrested nine times in San Bernardino County, says TMZ, and has one arrest for spousal abuse. Sanchez was convicted on spousal abuse and firearms violations.
On Stow’s condition:
On Friday, the family posted the news on their website that a nurse practitioner reported Stow had his eyes open and he attempted to hold up his thumb or fingers, then opened and closed his eyes on command.
When asked for his last name, he mouthed Stow, the family said.
“The nurse practitioner, his nurse and the neurosurgeon witnessed this and they are very sure that is what he did,” the family noted, but added he was given an anti-seizure medication and was asleep when family arrived. “We didn’t get to see anything, but that is ok…we were still very excited!”
Stow’s family says they expect there to be further setbacks, but that this is another step forward for which they’re very grateful. I understand the guarded optimism, but forgive me for celebrating here.

Truly great news on his recovery front. I wish Stow nothing but the best.
But the total losers responsible will never be able to compensate Stow whose medical bills must already be in the millions. And the way our justice system works, they’ll likely serve just a few years before being let out to hurt still more people. Now that MLB is running the Dodgers, they should step in and help make Stow whole financially. That would send a very positive message.
