And now, shocking video of Andrew Bynum taking up two handicapped parking spaces
Jul 20, 2011, 3:22 PM EDT
OK, the mainstream press was a little slow catching on to that Bush administration weapons of mass destruction dodge. But when it comes to handicapped parking scofflaws, NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE! Here’s The Lakers’ Andrew Bynum caught in his web of traffic deceit, in “an exclusive NBC-4 investigation” being filmed hogging two handicapped parking spots at the upscale Bristol Farms Market in Playa del Rey.
And NBC-4 Los Angeles reporter actually confronts Bynum as he’s getting into his car, and Bynum just slams the door and drives off.
“It’s a terrible image and perception when something like this happens,” said Vito Scattaglia, DMV deputy chief, after NBC4 showed him the pictures.
The photos appear to capture Bynum’s BMW parked partly in a disabled parking spot, and partly in an adjoining spot reserved solely for the loading and unloading of disabled passengers.
The pictures appear to show Bynum lifting his groceries into his car and then driving off.
“That does infuriate me, because there are those people that truly need that space,” Scattaglia said.
The photos show plenty of open parking spots for the able-bodied just a few feet from where Bynum had allegedly parked.
The abuse of disabled parking spots and placards is a growing problem that was exposed in an NBC4 undercover investigation in 2010.
How can you not laugh at both ends of this? Not only is this “investigation” being blown way out of proportion, but the act itself is stupid. An NBA player making $14 million a year just pulls up to a market and parks in the handicapped spot. I’m surprised he didn’t drive right into the store and shop from the front seat.

Bynum has apologized and vows to donate a fleet of used wheelchairs to make up for it.

With all the time Bynum being hurt, I’m surprised that he doesn’t have a disability parking sticker.

Sarcasm has no place, on a story like this.

Being from a family with several legitimately handicapped people and also transporting handicapped (or physically challenged) people to the store, doctors, and pharmacies, we are somewhat shocked that Bynum would do this but we see many others do this habitually. Last week, a young woman took up two handicapped spaces to go into the store to get a couple of 6 packs. When she exited, a policeman was writing her two tickets. She asked why two tickets and he replied, “You took up two spaces and each one illegally!” When she left, I asked the policeman if he could stay there a few more hours because I knew he would catch additional law breakers.

I know there are a lot more important things for policemen to be doing, but there’s a lot of money to be made ticketing violators.

When I was a child, I had a hip ailment, which I needed a wheel chair. More times than not, my poor mom, would need to park miles away, because of idiots like Bynum.
After a couple incidents like this, my father came up with an INGENIOUS idea. He printed stickers, and plastered them on the offending cars windshield. Big, Bright, neon orange stickers.
And the best part, was, these were the type of stickers, which did not simply peel off. They are the type that would tear and stick all over the place, making a big mess. Offenders would need to spend at least 20 mins, scraping these stickers off.
EVERYONE who reads this story, should do the same. Nothing makes me more sick, than seeing a story like this.
And KUDOS to the cop who wrote the stupid girl (2) tickets.
Handicapped people have enough to deal with in life. Their whole life is nothing but an obstacle, and to see Bynum pull something like this, makes me, and most readers sick.
So, EVERYONE, go to Kinkos, print some stickers, and start plastering offending drivers, who think they are above the law. Write some snarky comment on the stickers, and be sure to place the sticker, directly on the wind sheild where the driver can not see, unless they remove it.
Then sit back, and laugh your butt off, as they try to remove it… a tip is to throw a lil water on the sticker, as well. It makes an even bigger mess!
Someone needs to stand up for Handicapped people. Why not the “Off The Bench” Family!

What really irks me is the people that have handicap stickers and aren’t anymore (I know some may have a condition you can’t see) or they use someone elses sticker and you see them flying right into the store, no problems whatsoever. My first wife had cancer and was on oxygen, she couldn’t take too many steps at a time and there would be these other people taking up the spaces that didn’t need to.
