The consensus seems to be that this is a real photograph, showing an 18-foot crocodile named Brutus, who enjoys leaping for food offered by tourists in Adelaide, Aus.

But when photos of airborne Brutus appeared in Australian newspapers recently, they immediately sparked doubt that such a massive crocodile existed.

“That crocodile is 100-per-cent real. We’ve had forensics police look at the picture,” said Maxine Bowman, a staff member of Adelaide River Cruises, who take daily tours on the river to feed Brutus and other area crocodiles. Missing a front leg, rumoured to be the result of a shark attack, Brutus leaps into the air for food.

Likewise, this NBC video also seems to validate the story:

Best part: Brutus isn’t even the biggest crocodile in the river. Crikey.

We are used to alligators in Louisiana, but we have never seen a crocodile or alligator that large before. If this is real, it is really something. Crocodiles have dispositions much less friendly than alligators, so we hope the Aussies will handle this properly, and no children and no one else will be hurt.
