Wake Up Call: Welcome to Frank McCourt’s ghost town

Bill Plaschke’s son found a pair of reserved seat Dodgers tickets on StubHub for $2.55 each. Yep. From his column in the Los Angeles Times: No lines to enter the game, short waits for (half-price) concessions, and room to relax, even nap. Frank McCourt’s Ghost Town is eerie but has its advantages. Officially, Dodgers attendance is still ranked the 10th highest in baseball, at 35,675 per game, but that’s creative accounting on the part of the team. And go to a weekday game, like Plaschke did, and you can virtually have your pick of seats.

Of course the Bryan Stowe incident and huge police presence is only part of it. Not being able to meet the payroll, the McCourts’ legal struggles, the NL standings: all are contributing factors. In fact, the team is such a mess that Mark Cuban even says he may not be able to fix it. And that’s saying something.

More likely MLB will keep control of the Dodgers for awhile, spruce them up, then put ‘em back on the market. It’s like an episode of Flip This House. Nice fixer-upper, but I’m not sure about the neighborhood.
