It wasn’t all mayhem at the Vancouver Canucks riots

It’s springtime and the air is filled with love … and tear gas. You may be dedicated to rioting in protest of your team’s loss in the Stanley Cup Finals, but there’s no reason you can’t take a break; especially when you’re cut off from your friends by a phalanx of police. “Darling, I love you … who threw that brick?”

Photo by Getty’s Rich Lam, it should be noted.

The City of Vancouver placed several big screens along Hamilton Street near the CBC Building for Game 7 against the Bruins, and more than 100,000 people packed the area to watch the game. In retrospect, this was not wise. When the game ended, one of the first things fans did was topple a pickup truck and set it on fire, always a sign that it’s going to be a late night for police.

Some great photos here at The Province, and a couple of videos below. I had no idea Canadians were capable of this, eh.

Things you don’t want to hear on TV after your team loses the Stanley Cup Finals: “And now we’re hearing some light explosions …”

UPDATE from Dwight Schrute: “Vancouver is now the Detroit of Canada.”
