Is this one of those ‘senior moments’ I’ve often heard tell of? This morning on ESPN2′s Mike and Mike in the Morning, Scottie Pippen was asked to compare Michael Jordan with LeBron James. His answer registers an 8.2 on the incredulity Richter scale. (Aftershocks expected).
“Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to ever play the game. I may go so far as saying LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game,” said Pippen, surprising even co-hosts Mike Greenberg and Chris Broussard.
Pippen’s comment immediately blew up on Twitter, with Jordan fans screaming and James fans saying they agreed.
Even more interesting when you consider that Dennis Rodman, when asked last year to compare LeBron and Pippen, said this:
“People talk about LeBron,” said Rodman. “You’ve got to understand, LeBron has no business even being in the same conversation with Scottie. Scottie was the epitome of the (do it all elite player). What do you want me to say? Scottie was great.”
So among two Bulls teammates who played with Jordan, they can’t even agree on who was better between LeBron, Jordan and Pippen. What chance do we have?
OK, I’ll give it a shot anyway. If given the No. 1 and No. 2 overall draft picks with both rookie Jordan and rookie LeBron available, here’s what I’d do: I’d pick Jordan first, then pick a really good personal clubhouse attendant for Jordan second. You can have LeBron at No. 3.
