We can stop the voting, I think we have our Father of the Year right here. George L. Chin, 63, of Mattapoisett, MA, is a Special Olympics coach, which means he knows how to get the best from athletes who may be mentally challenged. Let’s just say you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet, OK? Chin was arraigned Wednesday on charges that he repeatedly slapped his mentally disabled adult son for playing poorly during a tennis match Saturday.

But when asked how he pleaded, Chin had a captivating defense strategy:

“Obviously not guilty,” said Chin. “I don’t know why this happened.”

Two Special Olympics staff members said Chin, who coaches a tennis team, hit his 22-year-old son, who has Down syndrome.

“They said George Chin slapped his son three to five times behind the ear, to the left of (his son’s) face,” police said in a report.

Chin was upset with how his son was hitting the ball, the staff members told police.

And from the Daily News caption in the photo with the story:

George Chin is arraigned yesterday in Framingham District Court on charges of of assault and battery on a retarded person.

Is that really what they call it in Massachusetts?
