NCAA: Idol’s Scott McCreery can throw out first pitch as long as NC State ‘doesn’t try to recruit him’

An American Idol contestant is going to throw out the first pitch at North Carolina State’s Doak Field on Saturday, but beware, the NCAA is watching this closely. Scott McCreery (don’t pretend you don’t know who that is, no one’s buying it) will toss the ceremonial pitch before the Wolpack’s game with Florida State. But McCreery, 17, is still a high school student. In fact, he once pitched for nearby Garner High, where he had a 6-1 record with a 1.07 ERA the last year he played.
The NCAA usually doesn’t allow such fraternization between colleges and high school athletes, but has made an exception this time, for whatever reason (some members are big Steven Tyler fans?). The caveat is that NC State can’t try and recruit him.
My hope is that he throws a wicked inside-out slider that makes everyone drool in frustration and then ends up going to UNC-Wilmington. Failing that, the National Anthem would be nice.
