First Tony LaRussa’s daughter became an Oakland Raiders cheerleader, and we all thought that was fun — especially when someone finally woke Tony and told him about it. But now I am shocked to learn that the niece of Toronto’s mayor, Rob Ford, has announced that she’s going to try out for that city’s Lingerie Football League team.

Krista Ford — the athletic, football-loving daughter of city councillor Doug Ford, and niece of mayor Rob — is trying out for Toronto’s new lingerie football team.

Krista, 20, posted on her Twitter page on Monday that there were only “6 days ‘till (Lingerie Football League) tryouts. Training hard!”

The Toronto Triumph, the first Canadian team of the LFL, will hold tryouts at Polson Pier on Saturday. The Triumph’s debute game will be a September mixup with the Tampa Breeze at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto.

The LFL has 10 franchises in the U.S., plus the one in Toronto. There is talk of a separate LFL in Canada sometime in the near future.

And now, my favorite graph of any sports story this week:

“I’ve always wanted to get involved in (contact football),” said Krista, who’s played touch football for years, and was instrumental in forming her high school’s flag football team. “This was a great opportunity to play for the LFL.

Being the relative of politicians, Krista knows how important it is to build your resume.
