Echo! (Echo! Echo! Echo! …): 1,100 fans show up for Nationals-Pirates game

OK, to be fair, it was raining. And it was a makeup game. And the Penguins were playing. But Sam Miller of the Orange County Register counted only 1,100 people at the Nationals-Pirates game at PNC Park on Monday, which has to be some kind of a low attendance record for a non-rain delayed, non-Florida Marlins major league game.

How did Miller count the fans? With a series of screen shots from the televised game. Really, it wasn’t that hard. Paid attendance was announced at 12,457, but that figure comes from tickets sold to the game that was rained out. Did each fan have his own beer vendor? Did Pirate Parrot give private performances? Is this guy trying to start The Wave?

Yeah Bud Selig, let’s expand those playoffs. Or how about instead we talk about a salary cap?
