Wake Up Call: Oh no! Copa Trophy dropped under bus, flattened (RIP)
Apr 21, 2011, 9:00 AM EDT
That impressive piece of hardware there is the Copa del Rey Trophy, awarded annually to the best soccer team in all of Spain. It will be missed. Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos is hoisting the trophy atop a bus during Wednesday night’s giant celebration of his team’s 1-0 victory over Barcelona. Imagine Brian Wilson brandishing the World Series Trophy during the Giants’ victory parade, or Aaron Rogers waving the Lombardi Trophy. That’s precious cargo, so please be careful … oh no! The Copa del Rey Trophy is down! CRUUNNNCH!
Greatest soccer quote of the year: “The cup fell, it fell,” Ramos said.
There are bad omens, and there is dropping the Copa Trophy, which is then run over by a double-decker bus. This can’t be good.
