By now you probably know that Buster Posey’s younger sister, Samantha, hit for the home run cycle over the course of a Div. II college softball doubleheader earlier this week for Valdosta State. This comes as no surprise to her mother, Tracy Posey, who has always said that her daughter was the most athletic member of the family. Even though she also has two other baseball-playing sons besides Buster.

In a douleheader against Albany State, Ms. Posey collected a solo home run, a two-run homer, a three-run homer and a grand slam, becoming somewhat of a media sensation. From an October, 2010 article in the San Francisco Chronicle:

Buster has two younger brothers, Jack, a red-shirt junior on Florida State’s baseball team, and 17-year-old Jess, still playing for Lee County High. Their sister, Sam, is a junior at Valdosta State, playing third base on the softball team.

“I still think Sam is the most athletic of them,” Demp Posey said. “She has the most tools. Buster, I think he’s just the hardest worker.”

And now she’s got a little notoriety of her own. Not only was her cycle exploit covered on just about every site on the internet, but Samantha also appeared on ESPN’s First Take this morning.

Posey had eight homers and 11 RBI as Valdosta swept, 13-0 and 16-0. She’s hitting .468 with a .909 slugging percentage for the Blazers (31-6, 16-5 Gulf South).

The family is from Leesburg, Georgia.

Bonus quiz: Valdosta State’s mascot? Anyone?
