The great Phil Mickelson vs. Krispy Kreme Legal War is over
Apr 13, 2011, 10:06 AM EDT
We all recall how Phil Mickelson celebrated his victory in The Masters in 2010 … by rolling up to an Augusta, Ga., Krispy Kreme outlet the following day and ordering 36 donuts. (A tradition unlike any other). A KK employee used the occasion to take this famous photo, which he tweeted to AOL’s Clay Travis, and subsequently went viral, as they say.
But all did not end well wit the story, unfortunately. It seems that the Augusta Krispy Kreme location erected an in-store billboard display using the photo with their own logo. And when Phil’s lawyers got wind of it, legal threats began to fly. TMZ has the scoop:
According to our doughnut sources, Phil’s camp was PISSED … because no one got the man’s approval before plastering his image all over the display. We’re told one of Phil’s associates even paid a little visit to the KK in question last week to make sure employees removed every last picture — and threatened legal action if they didn’t.
We’re told the doughnut store removed the display. Phil’s rep had no official comment.
So to answer Homer Simpson’s question, it seems that yes, there is something that donuts cannot do.
