Tweet from Andrew Bucholtz, who writes the CFL blog for Yahoo Sports: It’s not just Toronto; the LFL wants to start a Canadian league! “A Canadian LFL league is set to begin play in September 2012.” 3 downs?
Sure enough, a Lingerie Football League-style exhibition game between Canadian teams has been scheduled for July 22 at the Golf Dome Center in Winnipeg. That game will kick off a country-wide tour, culminating in a special at halftime of the CFL’s Grey Cup. It’s unclear at this point what the league will be called: its Facebook page refers to it as the Canadian Lingerie Football League, but there is also a web site in which the July 22 game is referred to as the Canadian Female Fantasy Football League Pro-Launch.
Either way, it’s 7-on-7 girls football in lingerie, same as the U.S. version, although not officially affiliated with the 11 franchises (so far) in the states.
I’ve never thought of the words “lingerie” and “Canada” in the same sentence before, and it frankly makes me kind of ill. But if Minnesota can have a franchise, I guess Canada can too.
