Carl Lewis to run for office, promises that if elected, will never sing again

Carl Lewis has announced plans to run for the New Jersey Senate. Nucky Thompson has to be behind this, right? The nine-time Olympic gold medalist, 49, announced his candidacy to represent the 8th Legislative District, which includes his hometown of Willingboro. Lewis, a Democrat, will challenge Republican Dawn Addiego, the current representative.
Lewis said he hopes to inspire people, encourage communities and improve educational opportunities for children. After his news conference, the Track and Field Hall of Fame member headed to Willingboro High School, where he has served as a volunteer track coach for four years.
As the Los Angeles Times points out, anything that steers him away from a singing career has to be a good thing.
Fun fact: If elected, Lewis will be the only member of the New Jersey Senate to have been drafted by both the Chicago Bulls and Dallas Cowboys.
