Put your local first-base coach on alert: William Ligue Jr. gets out of jail

If I asked if you remembered either Tom Gamboa or William Ligue Jr., chances are most of you (a.k.a. the non-degenerates in the group) would say no. But, if I asked if you remembered the poor former-Kansas City Royals’ first-base coach and the thug(s) who randomly attacked him at a game in Chicago’s Comiskey Park all the way back in 2002, I think more of you would answer in the affirmative. Well, good news: that thug (Ligue) is getting out of prison!
Now, if you’re thinking to yourself that even for the cowardly act of assaulting a stranger in front on 30,000 people with your father, nine years is a tough sentence for a juvenile– worry not, Ligue has actually been incarcerated on account of unrelated drug charges. Strange, I would’ve thought embezzlement, or maybe insider trading. These things always come out of left-field.
The actually shocking part of this story? Ligue is NOT banned from the stadium for life. In fact, once given his walking papers from the pen, he can attend a White Sox game just like any other law-abiding citizen. Look, if running onto an MLB field just for kicks & giggles warrants a taser-ing, then doing it and then beating up a middle-aged stranger ought to at least get you a perma-ban from the park, no?
Here’s hoping he has the good sense not to show up at a game and cause a scene…or failing that, at least direct his rage against the mascot like the rest of us.
