Fourth-grader correctly picks Final Four; and his choice to win it all is …

Your office pool bracket is just smoldering ruins, not unlike Berlin following WWII, or Detroit after a Pistons championship. But various tales of NCAA Basketball Tournament prediction success have begun trickling in this week, including that of fourth-grader Patrick Lindsey of Camden, SC, who correctly picked the Final Four as part of a class project.
Apparently Patrick didn’t pick the teams back on the tournament’s opening day, but from the field of Elite Eight finalists. Still, that’s a pretty amazing feat for a 10-year-old, going with VCU, Butler, Kentucky and UConn, essentially all upsets. The assignment was a class project merging poetry with basketball. Shall I Compare Thee to a Jimmer jump-shot? …
The project was so popular, Ms. Cantey decided to use basketball to teach other subjects like geography. Each week, the students would pick the winners of each game and post them in the classroom. “We would ask Patrick, ‘who do you think will win this weekend?’” said Cantey.
His answer was Butler, VCU, UConn and Kentucky. “Some people that watched the teams thought I was okay, but some people were like, ‘are you sure about that?’” said Lindsey. “A lot of people in our neighborhood thought, ‘who is VCU? That team is definitely not going to win.’”
If by “in our neighborhood” you meant “Kansas,” you are correct. Anyway, Patrick is now pretty much king of everything at his school.
It has also given him bragging rights over pretty much everyone. “I felt excited because everybody said ‘you are crazy,’ but I think the underdog wins a lot,” he said.
So, Patrick’s choice to win it all? UConn. To Vegas!

Any kid that picks UConn to win is alright by me!
I had Uconn, Kansas, Ohio St and Wisconsin. I still feel like I should have gotten 3 of the 4. Didn’t feel good about the OSU pick when I made it.
