Metal detectors come to Dodger Stadium

Considering the legal issues suffered by their owners, attending a Dodgers game is just like going to court anyway. So why not complete the experience and have metal detectors at all the entrances? Vin Scully Is My Homeboy brings us the news that the security wands were being used at Dodger Stadium on Monday for a spring training game, and will be a regular feature throughout the season. Sorry, Evan Longoria!

Security at Dodger Stadium are now using Garrett metal detectors. From last night. I don’t mind. I guess we will all feel safer. The only downside is that it will take you longer to get in since fans are not used to it. I’ll give you an example, I forgot to get my phone out of my pocket and security noticed that and asked me to take it out.

To my knowledge the Dodgers become the first MLB team to routinely screen fans for weapons upon entering their stadium. The Dodgers began using uniformed police officers to patrol the stands in 2005 due to complaints about violence, and the last two opening days have been marred by violent incidents, including a stabbing in 2009, although that occurred in the parking lot. But many have complained about “thuggish behavior” at Dodger Stadium in recent seasons, and it seems the team is getting serious about clamping down on it.

Now if they can just add pat-downs, start the games late and lower the quality of the food, they’d have the full airport experience.

Well, at least now no one will take a shot at the airplane towing the San Francisco Giants banner on Friday.
