If you are a woman who gets her purse snatched at a grocery store, the man pictured here is who you want to help you, believe it or not. By day, Drew Larman is a center for the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League. By night, he’s the crime fighting vigilante, Iceman. On March 3 Larman thwarted a purse snatching at a supermarket in Ft. Myers, Fla.

According to the Naples News, Larman was shopping at a Sweetbay Supermarket in Fort Myers, Fla. on March 3 when he heard a loud scream from 59-year-old Beverly Whaley. Larman reportedly dropped his things once he heard the scream and chased after the unknown assailant who had left the store with Whaley’s purse.

From the Naples Daily News:

Worried that the man could have a weapon, or perhaps an accomplice, Larman surveyed the situation for a brief second before realizing the man was acting alone. As the thief jumped into his car, Larman continued his pursuit, and proceeded to use his 6-foot-3 195-pound frame to stop the man from escaping with Whaley’s purse.

“When he got to the car I realized he was just trying to get away,” Larman said. “I knew if he got the door to his car closed that would be the end of it. As he was closing the door I literally lunged in front of the door, stopped it with my arm and my leg from closing and pushed the door wide open.”

When Larman finally looked the man face-to-face, he had a startling revelation.

“I realized that he was actually more scared of me than I was of him,” Larman said. “He had the purse in his lap, the keys in his hand and I asked him, ‘What are you doing?’ He said to me, ‘I’ve got kids,’ That’s the only thing he said.”

Larman snatched the purse back, and after putting his life on the line once, didn’t risk further danger by trying to stop the man from fleeing. As the purse-snatcher sped out of the parking lot, Larman returned to the purse to a thankful Whaley.

“When he handed to me I said ‘Thank you so much, you’re my hero today,’” Whaley said. “He said, ‘We’re all heroes.’”

All in a day’s work for Drew Larman.

The Everblades, by the way, are the team that gave us these jerseys:

So, yeah … a lot of pent-up rage there, I’m guessing.
