In rare display of good sense, Michael Vick skips awards ceremony calling him a “hero”

A month ago, we passed along news that Michael Vick was going to be recognized as a “hero” by a local arts organization in his home area of Southeastern Virginia. Well, the gala in which that was supposed to happen occurred this weekend, and there was only one small problem– Vick didn’t show up. I think even he knows “hero” is a ridiculous label to lay upon him right now and wanted no part of the publicity. Or his agent caught wind of it and locked him in his house for the evening. Either way, good move not to show. Except…
WAVY.com was told Vick had confirmed he was going to be at the event, but gala goers say they never saw Vick … tickets went for $100 a piece. Several people were upset and walked out.
Aw. Well I guess next time you should be a little more selective about who you choose to honor at your haughty events that nobody has ever heard about. $100 tickets? I hope they came with two steak dinners and a $40 rebate. Vick hasn’t cost people that much money since the Eagles’ last play-off game.
In the meantime, let’s save the term “hero” for the movies, alright? There’s a bunch of Avengers movies coming out soon, and I think only like one of them ever ran a dog-fighting ring, and that was years ago, okay? Even superheroes make mistakes.
