Chris Bosh: ‘Any player who says they haven’t cried over basketball, they’re lying’

People are starting to call them the Bipolar Heat, and that can’t be good. But what else do you call a team that beats the Lakers and Spurs, but follows up with a loss to the Oklahoma Thunder at home? Another issue that doesn’t help: the perception that you’re a crybaby. Miami’s Chris Bosh appeared on Dan LeBatard’s radio show in Miami, and inevitably the conversation came around to crying in the locker room. Bosh:

“Any player who says they haven’t cried over basketball, they’re lying. … It’s emotions. That don’t make you weak. It doesn’t make you weak as a man or as a player. That just shows how bad you want to win. It really doesn’t matter at the end of the day.”

Audio here.

I think we can all agree with that, can’t we? So according to Bosh, crying is OK after a game. But practicing? No, no no. That’s where he draws the line. Like when Kobe Bryant went out and shot for an extra 90 minutes on the Miami floor following the Heat’s recent win over LA.

“I have no problem with guys wanting to get better, but if you think that any of us were going to be able to shoot on the Staples Center court for 90 minutes, you would be totally mistaken,” Bosh said. “I don’t think they should have allowed him to do that. … We should’ve shut the lights off.”

I suspect that wouldn’t have stopped Kobe.

Look, I’m just happy to see some quotes from a basketball player that don’t involve Michigan or Duke.

I think the Heat get everything they deserve. I also believe there are too many huge egos for that team to succeed.
