In news that requires you to read up and down instead of sideways, and also to momentarily stand on your head, an Iranian spokesman is claiming that the official logo for the London 2012 Olympic Games actually spells out the word “Zion.” The term refers to Jerusalem or the Biblical land of Israel. Iran is so certain of this that they are threatening to boycott the Olympics, and are urging other Muslim nations to follow suit. And that’s good timing, because there isn’t enough turmoil right now in that part of the world.

In comments carried by the official IRNA news agency Monday, secretary general Bahram Afsharzadeh said the letter urges other Muslim states to oppose the “racist logo.”

“There is no doubt that negligence of the issue from your side may affect the presence of some countries in the games, especially Iran which abides by commitment to the values and principles,” the letter said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for Israel’s destruction and questioned historical accounts of the Holocaust. Iranian athletes have refused to compete against Israelis.

So there’s the logo above, kids. See if you can trace the letters Z, I, O, N, and send it in for a valuable prize. (Caution: May also spell ‘Neon,’ ”Zags’ or ”Zona.’

Well, besides that, its a stupid-looking logo. To think someone paid like $1 million to have that drek developed….. Ugh.
