From the Holy Family University web site: Holy Family has a welcoming atmosphere and promotes spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs. Holy Family believes in openness, dignity, and respect for all people. Except during rebounding drills, of course.

Holy Family, a Div. II team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, may be looking for a new men’s basketball coach after a tape leaked out of coach John O’Connor roughing up sophomore player Matt Kravchuk during an obscenity-filled rant by the coach during practice. In the video below, O’Connor is none to pleased with Kravchuk’s effort during a rebounding drill, and knocks him to the floor, where he then proceeds to kick him. As Kravchuk stands in line bleeding, the coach then throws him out of practice.

Personally, I would never participate in a high-energy rebounding drill without my attorney present. Kravchuk apparently shares my concerns.

A spokesperson said they were aware that a police report had been filed, and said the university was also looking into the matter. However, because it was a legal matter that involved a personnel issue, they couldn’t comment further.

Look, if you’re coaching a Div. II college team, and you can knock around your big men like Tinker Toys at practice, you’re not going to win many games in the first place. Sometimes the best coaches are the ones who know when to say “OK, everybody, free throws.”

Not taking to coach’s side because he seems like a total dick but the player flopped! That was not a very hard hit.

Yeah, but what was the kid to do? He’s being attacked by an adult in a position of authority over him. I’d have flopped, too. Then, like this kid is going to do, I’d sue the ass off everyone even remotely connected to this.
