Further proof that it is extremely easy to get arrested in Wyoming– elderly skiier busted for going uphill

There’s good days, there’s bad days, and there’s the days you get hauled off to jail on a toboggan and criminally charged with unsafe skiing. That last one is the kind of day 78-year-old Roland Fleck had a couple weeks ago in Jackson, Wyo.

It seems that Fleck, a retired doctor, refused the orders of some nebulous force known as “ski patrollers” to cease his uphill skiing, for “avalanche danger and the presence of grooming machines made it unsafe.” I guess that makes sense. Well, except for the fact that he was skiing uphill, as well as every other part of that sentence. Is everyone really that bored in Wyoming? Maybe the police should spend a little less time handcuffing doctors for ski infractions and a little more time snuffing out the methamphetamine labs that populate their prairies like pimples on a steroid-user’s back. Keep fighting the good fight, fellas.

Skiers can get uphill with snow-gripping “skins” on their skis, among other methods.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide says Fleck was jailed on charges of trespass, interference, unsafe skiing and theft of services.

Resort officials say they won’t press charges because Fleck’s removal resolved their complaint. Sheriff Jim Whalen says he sees no need for prosecution.

Seriously though, he was skiing UP the hill? I guess our grandfathers weren’t lying to us when they said they used to walk ten miles to school in the snow, uphill both ways. The crazy old kooks actually found a way. You think they know gravity is real?

If you think that the ski policies of a multi-million dollar ski resort reflect the state that it is incidentally located in then, well, you are about stupid enough to have written this blog post. So I guess what I’m saying is it sounds like you are shooting par for your course.
