And here’s the best lead to a sports story this month so far:
England’s key World Cup spin bowler Graeme Swann, stopped on his way to a supermarket to buy a screwdriver to free a pet cat trapped under floorboards, was cleared of drunk-driving by a court Wednesday.
Let this be a lesson to all of you young cricket players out there; always keep tools handy in case your pets get trapped beneath the floorboards of your house.
Swann had consumed two or three, or nine, glasses of white wine on the night in question while celebrating his birthday. But the judge ruled that the blood sample he had given was inadmissible, and Swann was found not guilty.
England’s cricket team is in India for the World Cup (being played now through Feb. 3), but Swann has not yet joined them; his wife is about to give birth.
In his absence, England won their first World Cup warmup match against Canada Wednesday by 16 runs in Fatullah, Bangladesh.
According to Wikipedia, his two cats are named Max and Paddy, but no word on which cat got trapped.
Don;t worry … after you discover that Swann is also lead singer of the rock band Dr Comfort and the Lurid Revelations (video below), it all makes sense.
