Video: teaching children about the heartbreak of fandom starts early in Texas

I don’t have any kids, but if there’s one thing I do know about parenting, it’s this– anytime you can document the sadness of your young child and then share it with the world in an online medium, you just have to. Especially when you’re lying to that kid about what’s making him so sad in the first place. Nurturing, you’re doing it wrong.
Michael Young of the Texas Rangers MAY be getting traded soon (or he may not), due to changing his mind about accepting the regular DH role in the line-up. Nevertheless, this erstwhile parent makes it abundantly clear to her 3 year-old song and huge Michael Young fan that his favorite ballplayer has gone the way of the dodo bird. I’ve seen a lot of dejected faces in my life (as a Redskins/Wizards/Orioles fan), but that poor kid takes the cake when he finally registers that Michael Young is going bye-bye. At least you’re not a Mets fan, kid.
Curious to see how this early-runner for Parent of the Year explains it to the little guy when Young is still a Ranger come Opening Day. “You see, sometimes mommies and daddies make things up because they’re bored and want to be Internet famous. Now, about the team’s impending bankruptcy…”
