They say all good things must come to an end. All bad things too, apparently, as the Cleveland Cavaliers ended their historic 26-game losing streak with an overtime victory over the Los Angeles Clippers (who else?) on Friday night.
Mo Williams notched a double-double in his return from a hip injury and the rest of the Cavs actually resembled a basketball team, fighting tough in the 4th quarter to extend the game to OT before finally getting the loss-monkey off their backs. Take that, Blake Griffin.
Now, as a small matter of detail, the Cavs are still 2-36 in their last 38 games in addition to still being, well, the Cavs. This website exists for a reason, after all.
However, they could very well be on their way to a two-game winning streak this weekend. That’s right, count em up, TWO games! The woeful Wizards will be visiting the Quicken Loans Arena on Sunday night, and John Wall and Co. have yet to win a road-game this season. These are some two high-quality basketball teams that will be going at it, that’s for sure.
The real winners out of all of this? Those abysmal Tampa Bay Buccaneers teams from the late 70′s, the previous sole owners of the longest losing-streak in sports with 26 consecutive embarrassments of their own. A Clippers victory last night would have pushed the Cavs into multi-sport history at 27 in a row, and would’ve ensured that nobody ever heard about those Buccaneer teams again. Cling to that relevance long and hard, men.
