Gio Bartucci had a better Super Bowl experience than you

Gio Bartucci

Courtesy of Shutdown Corner comes this absolutely ridiculous Super Bowl tale of Gio Bartucci, a huge Packers fan originally from Rome who charmed his way into the story of a lifetime last week in the dusty plains of North Texas. Despite traveling to the Dallas-Ft. Worth area without an actual ticket, the recently-moved-to-New York Bartucci just hoped that things would work out for him, because well, they always do. A few highlights:

* Bartucci originally became a Packers fan after catching a game on TV as a teenager while visiting his aunt in New York. Despite knowing nothing about what he was watching, Gio fell for the Packers because of the Lambeau Leap and “most of the supporters, the fans, they had their shirts off and it was snowing and they were wearing giant pieces of cheese on their heads,” which he liked. Of course he did.

* In 2009, Gio took a one-man trip to Green Bay for the express purpose of watching the game. The result?

“I go to the game and I make friends with everybody, and I got so drunk,” he said, noting that some of the fans were perplexed by the exuberant foreigner in their ranks. “I told them, ‘I am from Rome and this is my dream…I’m finally in the Lambeau field.’”

* This wasn’t Gio’s first Super Bowl Experience. Last year, after charming some Wall St. types during his gig as a bartender (rumored to be one of the best in New York), “they flew Gio to Miami on a private jet, bought him a ticket to the game, and put him up in the swanky Delano Hotel for a few nights.” Is anyone else getting jealous yet?

* Not only did Gio make his way into the game (he somehow managed to secure an all-access pass, which he won’t spill the beans about), he ended up on the field following the Packers win, reveling alongside the players and coaches as the Lombardi trophy got passed around like a joint on an after-school special. Gio got the hold the trophy himself. This must be one charming individual.

* And, as the coup de grace to all of us normal folk– Gio is standing directly next to Aaron Rodgers in his Super Bowl MVP Disneyworld commercial. At first glance it looks like it could easily be a Packers WR or LB on injured reserve, but no — the fellow with the full beard and the Old Genesis locks is Gio, the charmed Italian who now has two incredible Super Bowl stories to share.

Do yourselves a favor and check out Shutdown Corner for the full story, because this one has made-for-TV movie written all over it. Gio Bartucci, you are hereby entered as a first-ballot Hall of Famer into the Schmoozer Hall of Fame, continuing the long decades of suave, Italian dominance. What are you going to do next?
