TMZ.com posted an item that stated Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sang and drank Tuesday night until 1:15 a.m. at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar in Fort Worth, Tex. Roethlisberger was asked about it on Thursday.

On why he thought it was a good idea to go out Tuesday night: “It was superstition and tradition. Tuesday night I take my linemen out to dinner and we went to a great barbeque spot. We went there and wanted to listen to some live music, so we went to a piano bar. We just had an enjoyable night.”

On if he has a curfew this week and if so, what time: “We have a curfew. We have a one o’clock curfew. I heard that the crack TMZ staff that they are, they know their facts that I was out past then, but really we were home way before curfew.”

When asked about his players going out, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said: “I am not concerned about that one iota. We were talking about approaching this game like we would any other game. It’s normal for guys to eat dinner, believe it or not, every now and then during the course of the week leading up to a game. … Believe it or not, guys live lives.” [Dallas Morning News Super Bowl Blog]

Perception becomes reality. If a bank is financially stable, but everything perceives it’s going to fail, guess what, it fails. Big Ben being in a bar to the wee hours just brings up a bad perception, regardless of whether he had zero drinks or ten drinks, or anything else occurred.
Ben is going to have to live with the fact that even if he sits down to a steak dinner with some teammates and has a few beers, someone is going to post it on the Internet or report on it and then there will be all this negative talk. He did it to himself.
