Ben Roethlisberger didn’t start the fire

Let’s face it: fish gotta swim, Betty White has to be in every TV show, and Ben Roethlisberger has to close the bar. We may forgive the most hated Super Bowl participant for boozing it up at a Fort Worth bar until all hours on Wednesday, but, Billy Joel karaoke? Your fans expect better than that. From TMZ:

Ben Roethlisberger is paying extra special attention to his diet this week — because when he was pounding drinks at a Texas bar Tuesday night … he wanted his rum mixed with DIET COKE.

TMZ has obtained footage of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback hanging out at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar in Fort Worth Texas … where he sang his face off from 11:00 PM until 1:15 AM the next morning.

We’re told Ben racked up an $800 tab — and tipped an additional $200. People inside the bar tell us Ben was “nice, fun and took care of everyone.”

In the clip, Ben can be seen singing along to the Billy Joel classic “Piano Man” while his teammates joined in on the fun.

Video here.

Meanwhile, a tweet from ESPN’s Tim Cowlishaw:

If Big Ben was signing “Piano Man” at bar at 1 a.m., more power to him. If he was singing “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” I’d suspend him.

One might say that this is all innocent fun, and to paraphrase the movie disclaimer, no women were harmed in the making of this video. But as also know, all it takes is one drunken lout to stumble over and take a swing at you, and news of “Big Ben’s drunken bar brawl” is all over the world within six hours. If you’re really trying to rehabilitate your image, go see a movie.

Meanwhile, for a more detailed analysis of Roethlisberger’s singing voice, we have this old American Idol commercial. Warning: Nightmare Fuel tag applies.

This is new why? I’m not a Fan of his, but lets be real. Its stated “He was nice and took care of everyone?” OK, he brought alot of drinks, No harm in that, its his money right? He did, in fact pay, so not like he ditched on his tab. He had Rum and Diet Coke, no story there either. Now if he had 30 drinks and was blitzed…………..And with the singing, 3.5 days to game time, have a little fun with the fans!

Hey dsims7 Thats the problem, He’s having to much fun with the fans in bars. There normally female…………………………………….

Heck of a tip, $200. Good for him. He’s clearly trying to enjoy himself, as he should be allowed to do, yet not go overboard. I agree with the story close though… if some drunken idiot comes up and takes a swing at him, whatever he’s TRYING to do gets thrown out the window. I don’t like the guy, but I do hope he doesn’t do anything to screw up his team’s focus or chances in the Super Bowl. One of the guys on ESPN said it best: you’ve got ONE more game to play, ONE more game to prepare and focus on. You have to set aside all the other stuff until this “business trip” is over. Some of these guys need to realize this may be their only shot at a ring. Play it right and you’ll forever be known as a Super Bowl Champion.

florida727 You nailed it when you said that it could be innocent fun, but beleive me there is a jerk out there that will get drunk and start running his mouth. One punch and the commissioner will be johnny on the spot. That word u used FOCUS, is exactly what this guys got to do and Im not even a steeler fan.

This guy just doesnt get it . After 4 game suspension, after all the media scrutiny and after all his talk of bad judgement. Your in the Super Bowl Ben. You could for one week stay low. You know all the paparazi is watching. Ben if no one else gives you fatherly advice I will . Keep your STUPID AZZ in the hotel for 72 more hours. If you win the game no one will care, If you lose the game no one will care either, because no one remembers the loser in the super bowl.. Ben either your quite stupid or you have a real problem. Whichever it is get help before its to late buddy

I love the Steelers, but I don’t like this guy. He has the judgment of a three year old. Let’s look at what can be proven:
Riding a crotch-rocket in town without a helmet. It’s not like he was cruising a country road on a Hog.
Inviting a hotel employee to his room. In a state where prostitution is legal. Makes Charlie Sheen look wise.
And now this. Going to a bar to further impair his judgment, drinking does not make one smarter. Opens himself up to too much. If, like the author says, a drunk throws a punch or an attention-seeking, judgment-impaired, drunk woman (you can find these at bars) follows him to the bathroom (which he would need to do because of his Diet Coke and Rum consumption) all hell could break loose. The Steelers could have lost their starting quarterback. Even if he couldn’t wait until after the game to have a few drinks and belt out some tunes, which he should have, all he needed was an i-Pod and a mini-bar to avoid exposure.
    Certified MORON
I would love to see the Steelers win, but I would probably enjoy watching him get hit hard on the helmet enough times to get some sense knocked into that skull just as much.

Raedwulf, You to nailed it my friend. This guy must not have one good friend that can look him in the eye and give him good advice. Maybe he thinks that money and fame will just keep him safe from the ugly realitys of life. This guy is headed for a bad place if he doesnt change course. God know’s his coach didnt care. Ben headed for the cliff and theirs no one to stop him. I dont dislike the guy for his play , but the choice’s off field AS the commercial says REALLY BEN?

This a-hole sings is in a karoke bar after serving a measly 4 game suspension for raping a girl. Well, Vick went to jail for killing dogs & I got no problem with Vick now. He paid for what he did. He seems contrite, he acts contrite, maybe he even means it. So long as he harms no more animals, who cares? This bozo here? He’ll do it again. He got away with it and everybody on the team adores him for throwing footballs. Hell, she wasn’t their kind, right? Everybody posting is right; he doesn’t get it, never will, and his friends make him worse. Dear Green Bay; Please, someone, stick a helmet in his groin. Real. Hard. No suspension on hits to the groin, now are there?
