Where’s Ted Williams?

When last we heard of our formerly homeless, golden-voiced protagonist, he had checked out of a drug and alcohol addiction rehab facility — against the advice of Dr. Phil — and headed toward “an unnamed airport,” according to several reports. But that was a week ago, and since this space has been covering Williams’ story from the beginning, I thought I’d try to unearth an update on his whereabouts. This is all I’ve been able to find so far. From Fox News:

On Friday, Williams returned to the Ohio street corner where he used to live and located Houston. Williams gave Houston a wad of cash and promised to help Houston get off the streets once he himself gets his life in order.

The Houston in question here is Victor Houston, who shared a tent with Williams in Columbus when Williams was homeless. And while we may not be sure of Williams’ current whereabouts, we know what happened to the tent.

The tent in which Ted Williams, the golden-voiced homeless man who became an overnight media sensation, used to live sold for $355 Saturday in an online auction.

Victor Houston, who shared the dwelling with Williams before he became famous, put it on eBay on Jan. 23 with a starting price of $100. It attracted 16 bids before ending at $355.

The website listing stated, “This is your chance to bid on a piece of web history. Much could be said about Ted Williams, but one thing is for sure, he has had historical success overnight from the web … This story will be remembered as the defining moment for viral video.”

No piece of this story will remain unsold!

Houston said that the proceeds were donated to a homeless shelter.

As for Williams’ job offer with the Cleveland Cavaliers, that’s still up in the air. The Cavs offered Williams a job after taking him at his word that he was clean and sober. When that turned out not to be the case, they still stood by him, issuing this statement:

“The Cavaliers, Quicken Loans and our entire family of companies wish Ted Williams and his family the best as they continue their unique journey,” Tad Carper, spokesman for the Cavaliers/Quicken Loans Arena, told E! News.

“We hope they have many great days ahead of them together, but understand they also have some very important issues they must address,” Carper continued. “When Ted is healthy and has successfully worked through the critical personal challenges he faces, and should he want, we will be there to discuss his work interests and help him create a path for future professional success.”

So this isn’t like Charlie Sheen leaving rehab. Williams has a lot to lose. We’ll see what happens.

I wonder out loud if A) this wasn’t completely made up; and B) if you won’t see this guy ever again.
Sorry. Just the cynic in me speaking.

Why not invite Ted to the Rick Chandler residence as his permanent new home?

Then you could keep track of him all the time, maybe even get him to stand in on this blog for you too.
