On Wednesday night the world at large was introduced to Jimmer Fredette — seen here in giant fathead form — who led BYU over previously-unbeaten San Diego State 71-58. Fredette had 43 points on 14-for-24 shooting, and 5-for-8 on 3s. Twitter was ablaze last night with speculation on how he’s not going to be a great pro player. Oh, you mean that league of pampered superstars that’s suffering declining popularity and will probably be in lockout next season? Who cares? Let’s enjoy him now.
But the best part of this long-awaited Mountain West showdown was the Marriott Center crowd itself. Because Mormons aren’t allowed to do anything fun — hand over that soda, mister! — all that pent-up emotion gets channeled into rooting for sports. The results on on Thursday were raucous, to say the least.
The Mary Poppins-themed sign below took a lot of planning and effort, I’m guessing.
