By Lew Patton:
Welcome to Super Bowl XLV! My name is Lew Patton, and I will be your go-to on the spot reporter/concierge for Super Bowl XLV. I am a local resident here in the DFW area, so hopefully I can help any and all visitors get a taste of the Super show that is about to happen.
A couple of things to know about this area as you begin your search for a cheap place to stay in that alley you are looking at, Dallas and Fort Worth are natural rivals in anything. The fastest way to piss someone off in Fort Worth is to say you are in Dallas and vice-versa, so you can imagine when you say you are going to the game in Dallas, and it’s actually in Jerry World in Arlington, you will probably get some strange looks, even though they are the Dallas Cowboys.
With that said, the Dallas — Fort Worth rivalry for this Super Bowl is divided further by having the Pittsburgh Steelers stay in Fort Worth, while the Green Bay Packers are staying in Dallas. We Texas natives are already bragging about which team is our “adopted” teams. By the way, both Pittsburgh and Green Bay have broken our Cowboys’ hearts before, so we can’t show any partiality that way either.
I had a chance to go to Fort Worth this morning to watch ESPN unload some of their trucks as they are the first broadcasters on the scene. And here is my first video of one of the lot security folks.
One of the things I need to caution you visitors about is, the folks in this area are expecting you to bring a lot of money! Be mindful of that when you think about parking. You would think as big as Texas is that parking wouldn’t be an issue. Think again, Pilgrims! I’ll be updating you again about that soon.
Also, you might think about bringing a tent.
