Arlington mayor: The Super Bowl is NOT in Dallas, dammit!

Troy Aikman knows the score: Refer to Dallas as the host city of Super Bowl XLV, and face the wrath of Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck. Aikman was careful to point out at the conclusion of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game that the Packers were “headed to Arlington” for the Super Bowl. Others are not so measured.

The Arlington mayor, to Fox Dallas-Forth Worth:

“Does it make me angry? No. It’s just something we have to overcome,” Cluck said. “I’m frustrated. Sure. That’s the word.”

Even legendary former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson thinks it’s time for Arlington to get its due.

“It’s a big deal for the city of Arlington. Arlington is a growing community. And they’ve done some things and taken tremendous initiatives. Including when the city of Dallas dropped the ball, they were right there to catch that ball and bring Cowboys Stadium to their city,” Pearson said.

Others are not impressed.

“It’s in Arlington. It doesn’t matter where it’s at. It’s still the home of the Dallas Cowboys,” said Shirley Kelly, a Steeler’s fan.

Be sure to say Dallas to the cab driver, Shirley.

I can verify since I am a resident of Fort Worth and saw this in the news. The good folks in Arlington are indeed touchy about Dallas claiming to be the place where the Cowboys play. This entire region is so stoked about the Super Bowl being played here, the news is just chock full of Super Bowl information…it sort of sounds like this region is expecting to get rich due to the Super Bowl being played here. I am personally looking forward to seeing this area transform from what it is, to the magnificent stage production that is Super Bowl XLV. It’s the first time we have ever hosted it, and hopefully not the last.
