Cutler takes the heat: Bears fans burn No. 6 jerseys with gusto, lighter fluid

Jan 24, 2011, 10:56 AM EDT

Well, this isn’t going to help the Global Warming crisis. Over at the Bears Goggles On blog today, five different videos of Bears fans burning Jay Cutler jerseys; four of them with so many shouted expletives that we couldn’t embed them here (but we did find one SFW, which is following the jump). Safe to say the honeymoon is over between Chicago fans and Cutler. His departure from the NFC Championship Game in the third quarter due to a knee injury is the scandal du jour.

But the criticism for Cutler isn’t restricted to fans. Here’s Arizona’s Darnell Dockett, via Twitter:

Dockett backtracked a bit in subsequent tweets, but man, that’s harsh. The Huffington Post has a pretty comprehensive roundup of other sports media figures weighing in on Cutler, including this tweet from Deion Sanders:

“Folks i never question a players injury but i do question a players heart.”

If you’re old enough to actually remember Deion’s playing days, you know that this is the most devastating criticism of all. When Mr. Delicate Porcelain tells you you’re not tough, that’s bad.

So some Bears fans are total idiots. Plenty of fans are total idiots, pathetically living and dying vicariously through the athletic feats of others – nothing new there. But sheesh – did it ever occur to these morons that Cutler didn’t pull himself out of the game – the medical/coaching staff made that call. Did it ever occur to these “fans” that the coach thought they had a better shot with a healthy player rather than Cutler whose throwing would even be more off than it already was due to the injury. Sure, he was having a bad game before the injury – but give the Pack defense some credit for that. Look at it this way – losing to the Pack saved your team from a likely humiliation at the hands of the Steelers.

Very pathetic. I’m Glad I don’t live there. Win, lose or draw
I always support my team and players 100%.
    I glad they Lost!

So, these are the same idiots who blamed a guy in left field for trying to catch a ball hit into the stands in a playoff game. Then the Cubs blew the series and never got to the big dance, so they blamed and ran out of town an innocent fan. IDIOTS, BIG TIME!

    Great town??

Typical Chicago sports fans. There always have to have a scapegoat. First Bartman then Grossman now Cutler.
