Clearly I owe my eyes a nice day off and an apology after subjecting them to this; the nation’s first red high school football field. But since football season is over at Canyon High School (New Braunfels, Texas), the first official athletic event on the scarlet turf was soccer, as Canyon’s boys and girls teams competed in the Comal Cup Tournament on Thursday. Ha! Your red card has no effect, Mr. Official!
Kind of makes Boise State’s blue field seem quaint and old-fashioned.
Of course this isn’t the first blood-colored field motif in football, as Eastern Washington University installed a red field in January of last year. So now I’m taking wagers on the next color to pop up somewhere. I’m thinking orange, somewhere in Austin, Texas.
