Baltimore Oriole main suspect in murder; unfortunately not named Peter Angelos

As a fan, it pains me to say this, but the Baltimore Orioles are the Pittsburgh Pirates of the American League. And Orioles relief pitcher Alfredo Simon is apparently an actual pirate, as he is the main suspect in the New Year’s Eve shooting death of a man in his home country of the Dominican Republic. Now, assuming Simon had actually been trying to hit him, this would mark the first time all year an Orioles pitcher hit the strike zone. From the Associated Press:

The pitcher shot and killed 25-year-old Michel Castillo Almonte and wounded his 17-year-old brother during a New Year’s Eve celebration in the northeast coastal town of Luperon, police said in a statement. No motive was disclosed. Simon is from the Dominican Republic, and police said he fled after the violence.
Sad story. It doesn’t appear than Simon has been charged yet so we’ll wait all the facts to come out before assuming guilt or innocence, but right now it doesn’t look good for Simon’s future in Major League Baseball or the hapless Orioles organization. I just hope for Simon’s sake that he has Ugueth Urbina’s lawyer on speed-dial.
