As we recall from Monday, the Air Force Academy’s live falcon mascot was practicing his usual aerial maneuvers prior to the Independence Bowl, when he decided to skip the game and head downtown; most likely to Sam’s Town.

Turns out that the falcon, actually nicknamed “The Bird” by the school, missed most of his team’s exciting 14-7 win over Georgia Tech (ZZzzzzz). According to the ESPN2 broadcast, the falcon was spotted above the downtown area sometime during the third quarter, captured, and hauled back to the stadium in time for the victory celebration. That’s how you’d have to transport me to a low-level bowl game; in a cage, blindfolded.

By the way, does the above photo look like a humane way to treat a wild animal? I’m just wondering at what point the Air Force feels that falconry is going to be useful in battle.

Second sentence: Joking. First sentence: Not joking at all.
