Everyone knows about the Madden Curse that plagues any NFL player that appears on the cover of the hit video game Madden football. Well somebody call up Wes Craven because they’re making a movie about the infamous jinx. From The Wrap: Electronic Arts is developing “Madden Curse,” a sports comedy that incorporates the infamous jinx, believed to strike NFL players who appear on the cover of EA’s popular “Madden” video game with injury or poor performance. The story will follow a former Madden video game champion who is forced out of retirement just as he finds himself on the corner of the game’s cover — and subject to the curse. Pat O’Brien, VP of EA Entertainment, is spearheading the project as one of its producers. [Ted Williams Head]
- Charles Oakley Calls Charles Barkley an A******. “I have nothing against Isaiah but he made a lot of comments about the Knicks in the old days. He’s a great player, just like (Charles) Barkley’s a great player, but he’s an a******. My thing is, when Barkley played basketball, he didn’t practice, he wasn’t a leader, he wasn’t this or that, he just had natural talent so he got chosen to the Dream Team, All Star team because he had the talent and he was the franchise player on the team. Him criticizing all those other guys, he did the same thing when he was young.” [Sports Radio Interviews]
- Happy anniversary, Lorchcast. On this day 15 years ago a local legend was born. The poor guys at KHQA had a ton of trouble with their nightly sportscast. As you can see from the above video, nothing went right for fill-in anchor Matt Lorch and his field reporter, Don Jeffries. In honor of their anniversary, I caught up with both in my Sunday column today. Give it a read. I love this video. I wasn’t in town for more than a week or two before seeing it for the first time at former WGEM sports anchor Scott Inman’s house back in 1997. [WHIG.com]
