Today Cecil Newton said in a statement through his attorney George Lawson that he would not be attending the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Statement excerpt: “For all of my fifty years of life, coupled with 25 years of marriage, I have made an exhausting attempt to be a good husband, father, and generally a good person of integrity. The past 60 days have caused all that my family worked to accomplish to come into question. So that my son Cam Newton can receive all the honors and congratulations that he has worked so hard to accomplish and without distraction, I have decided not to be in attendance at the Heisman ceremony, as it will perhaps rob Cam and the event of a sacred moment.” [SportsbyBrooks]

  • Shut Your Yap: LeBron Takes To Twitter To Rip Trent Dilfer For Ripping Peyton Manning. Given that LeBron James can’t even go out to dinner in a restaurant in Miami without getting taunted, I guess that he has decided that even on road trips he should stay in his hotel room, order room service and watch SportsCenter, lest he be accosted by angry villagers armed with pitchforks and torches. At least that was the case last night as LeBron was taking it to the tweets to criticize Trent Dilfer for criticizing Peyton Manning. [Sportress of Blogitude]
  • Prepare To Get Yellow-Carded At The Pub. There aren’t many things we seem to like about the yellow card/red card system in footy, mainly because we’re always complaining that the wrong card was shown. So, it only seems right that several watering holes in Australia have been testing the notion of fusing the two things — subjective discipline via a yellow card, and binge drinking — into one gloriously, can’t-possibly-fail initiative! It can’t lose! [Unprofessional Foul]
