Growing number of boys now entering beauty pageants

As the song says, a pretty girl is just like a melody; and that’s why God created beauty pageants. Boys, however, should be cleaning out the rain gutters. But that’s just my opinion, and is not shared by a growing number of parents who are entering their preteen male children in beauty pageants. According to one estimate, 10 percent of kiddie pageant contestants are now boys, up from 5 percent five years ago. Frightening quote from an ABC report on the phenomenon:

In some cases, pageant moms admit their sons are filling a void. “When I see little girls, I always think, I could turn my little boys into girls,” another mom said. “These are my girls I never had!”

Perhaps the fact that I’m having trouble accepting this is that I’m a man with 20th century sensibilities living in a 21st century world. And while that would make me a good candidate to be offensive coordinator with the 49ers, it’s not so good at understanding new trends.

Zander Wilson, 6, is one of the pageant boys featured in the ABC report. Quote:

For now, Zander said, he’s happy to pursue pageants and dream of a future that embraces all walks of life. “I wanna be an adventurist and a hunter and a pharmacist so I can pay for pageants,” Zander said.

Attention Hollywood: Dibs on the adventurist/hunter/pharmacist movie idea.

I was in a beauty pageant when I was younger…. Now I enjoy wearing leotards (except in the summer, because I chafe), and I make a fabulous apple almond souffle!

Who needs Terrorists destroying American values when you have the mothers and fathers of these “boys” doing it for them.

I don’t know who the worse parent is… The mother for doing it, or the father for allowing it. In my book this is just another version of child abuse.

It’s terrible for both boys and girls. It’s embarrassing. Pageants encourage so many of the wrong attributes we want in our kids. These people are disgusting.
