As we told you two weeks ago, the fourth annual Quidditch World Cup was held at DeWitt Clinton Park in New York City. So the fact that more than 100 high schools and universities have Quidditch teams in an organized league prompted Dan Nabel of the Law Law Land blog to ask the musical question; does Warner Bros. and/or J.K. Rowling have a legal right to a share of the proceeds from real-life Quidditch?

The answer seems to be no, they don’t. But in researching his post, Nabel did come across the list of all the Harry Potter-related product trademarks that Warner Bros. has taken out. Among them: “Quidditch lingerie.”

In addition to licensing the “Quidditch World Cup” video game, Warner Brothers (predictably) has numerous registered Quidditch trademarks, encompassing everything from sporting goods (query whether a Nimbus 2000 broomstick is a sporting good) to lingerie (I don’t want to know either…).

That’s the very definition of sexy. With that in mind, here’s a list of quidditch terms that take on new meaning if executed while wearing quidditch lingerie:

  • Blagging.
  • Plumpter pass.
  • Beater.
  • Bludger.
  • Dopplebeater defense.

Here’s the portion of the trademark list in which it shows up:

“Clothing for men, women and children, namely, shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, jogging suits, trousers, pants, shorts, tank tops, rainwear, cloth bibs, skirts, blouses, dresses, suspenders, sweaters, jackets, coats, raincoats, snow suits, ties, robes, hats, caps, sunvisors, belts, scarves, sleepwear, pajamas, lingerie, underwear, boots, shoes, sneakers, sandals, booties, slipper socks, swimwear and masquerade and Halloween costumes and masks sold in connection therewith.”

Although knowing you, you’ve opted for the bootleg Harry Potter footy pajamas.

By the way, I don’t know if you’ve seen the latest movie, but it seems to me that a flying broom would have come in handy when Harry & Co. are running away from various creeps and evildoers, as they do for most of the film.

Does this mean we can expect a Lingerie Quidditch League anytime soon…
