Ow, my Gringotts! In Manhattan, Quidditch is a contact sport

Alternate headline: Snitches Get Stitches.

The Quidditch invasion on our shores has been well documented here; from the many colleges and universities working to make it an NCAA-sanctioned sport (yes, really), to those trying to stamp it out for good. But once a craze takes Manhattan, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that it’s here for good, right? (Video following the jump).

Here we see a Ron Weasley impersonator getting blagged in his quaffle during the Quidditch World Cup in Manhattan on Saturday. The event was attended by several colleges and looks pretty well attended. It was all heroically documented by Fanhouse’s Chris Sesno, who writes about it here.

Favorite quote: “We’re here with Randy Johnson, veteran snitch …”

In case you think this is just some abnormal behavior among a few Ivy League schools, be aware that 46 colleges competed in the event — among them Villanova and Michigan State — and there are at least that many with Quidditch programs in development.

All of this, I assume, being controlled by this guy in the dark recesses of his parents’ house.
