You’ve got your clever trick plays, like the one pulled off by Driscoll Middle School, which we showed you on Monday. Then you’ve got this, um, not so clever one (video following the jump). Watauga High School (N.C.) thought it would be a good idea to have one of their receivers go in motion and do handsprings in the backfield on a two-point conversion attempt. The refs were not amused, and threw a flag. Then things got weird, including three ejections.
Watauga lost the game to St. Stephens, 31-28. The backflipper, wide receiver Cam Haas, wrote on the YouTube comments page: They ejected me for excessive celebration… whatever, it was worth it! Although I don’t know how this could be considered a celebration; the play hadn’t even been run yet. Judging from the way the refs are dressed in the video, it seems like it was a cold night and they were in no mood for tomfoolery.
It wasn’t much different than the old basketball barking dog play, actually.
