Hail to the Redsikins

You’ll be happy to know that the big controversy over the Redskins nickname has been solved. Now they’re the Redsikins, which should make Native American groups happy. Actually this misspelling caper is not as bad as some we’ve seen recently; it just looks like the extra “i” is meant to overlap with the “k” when the jacket is buttoned. And since cheerleaders button their jackets to the neck about .0003 percent of the time, it makes perfect sense to design it that way.*

Anyway, we salute you, Washington D.C.; home of the Natinals, and President Obama.

* = Makes no sense.

    When I was just a young lad in D.C., my father made an off hand reference to the Redskins’ nickname as being misunderstood. When I pressed him, he pointed out that they were originally the Boston Redskins, and that the nickname referred not to Amerinds, but to those citizens who had disguised themselves before participating in the Boston Tea party, in effect, they were the Boston Patriots three decades before the AFL team took the name.
    Anyone know if there’s any truth to that?
