It’s raining tennis balls in Switzerland

Fans of the Swiss soccer team Basel were none too pleased with Swiss television, which moved the start time of its important match with FC Luzern to 12:45, so that the network could also show the final of the Swiss indoor tennis tournament. Playing prior to 1 p.m. is evidently a great insult to the Swiss. And how does a nation noted for its neutrality vent its anger? By throwing soft, fuzzy objects onto the pitch, of course. If only they had thought of this in the 1940s. Take that, Nazis! (40 love).

I am also intrigued by Basel’s stadium security. “Another man with very lumpy pants? Come right in, sir.”

Ready for the next time this happens: A pack of tennis ball-fetching Labrador Retrievers.
