It does not please me that a man who was just recently freed after being trapped underground for 69 days is running the New York City Marathon, while I get winded just going to the dry cleaners. Edison Pena claims that he ran alone in a dark tunnel for 69 days to keep his “mind sharp and his body fit,” and that was enough training to become part of the world’s biggest foot race. From the New York Daily News:
Peña will appear as a “special guest of honor” at the Nov. 7 race New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary WIttenberg announced in a statement Monday.
Peña, the 12th miner rescued, has expressed interest in running the race to the Chilean Consulate in New York, but it was not immediately clear whether he would run some or all of the 26.2 mile course.
In other words, he’s a celebrity who will soon be found on either The Apprentice, Survivor, or both.

This guy “ran alone in a dark tunnel for 69 days.” Meanwhile, I knock down pictures trying to get to my bedroom when the hall light is turned off.

Yup, just maintaining my balance in a dark room is a marathon for me…wow, more power to him.
