And now, an awesome high school football announcing meltdown

Since this seems to be the week for football announcer nervous breakdowns, we give you this bit of greatness. Following the jump, a splendid example of a couple of high school TV announcers completely losing it after a questionable officials’ call goes against their team. It’s the fourth quarter of last Friday’s game between Abington and Rockland (Mass.), and announcers Shawn Reilly and Kevin Whalen are at the mic. With Rockland trailing, 12-7, in the fourth quarter, Abington’s Dylan Pietrasik picked up what appeared to be a fumble and ran it back 50 yards for a touchdown that would have put the game out of reach.

But the play — a backwards pass that probably should have been ruled a lateral, and therefore a live ball — was called back; the officials ruling it an incomplete pass. The announcers were not amused.

Reilly: “Flag football! Horrible!”

Whalen: “Nuts and bolts, we got screwed!”

Rockland went on to win the game 21-12. Video link here.
