Members of the San Francisco State women’s softball team made this Brian Wilson Halloween prop and sent a photo of it to the SF Chronicle. The real Wilson, meanwhile, was wearing a Spartan helmet today in the pre-game locker room. It somehow added up to another ninth-inning save for Wilson, as the Giants took a 2-1 series lead with a 3-0 win over the Phillies. Matt Cain was the winner, proving the theory that you can look like you just woke up and throw seven shutout innings in the NLCS.
For those who are making World Series plans, I can guarantee you’re not a Giants fan. We know this team too well. They don’t do easy. There’s still a long way to go.
Oh, and there’s a pretty good story in USA Today about Wilson, which includes this passage:
Many closers save baseballs from the games they have saved, but Wilson keeps the balls from every time he has warmed up in the bullpen this year.
“I’ve got about 300 baseballs in my locker,” Wilson says. “I don’t date them. I just go by smell.”
Smell you at the game on Wednesday if you’re going.
