Ronaldo exits press conference in style (cough)

Rob Sylvester, folks. Let’s give him a big hand.

I’m a bit of a soccer neophyte, but even I know of Brazil’s goal-scoring star Ronaldo (though if Brazil insists on calling everyone Ronaldo, they need to start using some Roman Numerals: “Ronaldo IV” sounds like he’d be a good Pope). The 33-year-old striker and three-time FIFA Player of the Year is about as well known for his flair off the pitch as he is for his otherworldly talents upon it. For instance, take his latest press conference regarding his intent to return to his club team, which Ronaldo must have decided was a little stale and needed some livening up … with smoke bombs.
Video following the jump.

Yahoo Sports:

[Ronaldo] ended the press conference in which he made the announcement by throwing smoke bombs at the ground in front of the congregated press. The first two were duds and didn’t do much, but the third released the plume of smoke he so desired.

What, no mirrors?

After turning the the proceedings into a replica of Cheech Marin’s van, Ronaldo promptly exited, leaving the reporters in attendance confused and smelling a little like a bar. One can only hope this trend catches on in other sports. I’m looking forward to Tom Brady ending his post-game interview by sawing a woman in half, or Kevin Durant finishing off a press conference by pulling a quarter from behind everybody’s ear (or perhaps a silver dollar off Mitch Albom). Isn’t magic great?
